IoT Innovations in Healthcare: A Catalyst for Change
A leading expert in electrical engineering, Dr. Firdaus, delivered a compelling presentation at the Summer School Elektro UMY (Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta) on August 22, 2024, shedding light on the transformative potential of IoT-based technologies in healthcare. As an esteemed member of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Universitas Islam Indonesia and the IEEE ComSoc Indonesia Chapter Officer, Dr. Firdaus emphasized the critical role of IoT in addressing pressing healthcare challenges.
Dr. Firdaus’s presentation delved into the multifaceted applications of IoT in healthcare, highlighting two notable innovations:
- Medical Gas and Vacuum Installation (2020): This groundbreaking technology revolutionizes the management of essential medical gases and vacuum systems, ensuring optimal patient care and safety.
- Modular Operating Theater (MOT) (2023): The Modular Operating Theater (MOT) is an advanced concept in medical facility design that emphasizes flexibility, efficiency, and rapid deployment. Unlike traditional operating theaters, which are built with permanent fixtures and structures, a Modular Operating Theater is composed of prefabricated modules that can be assembled, disassembled, and reconfigured according to the needs of the medical facility. The innovation focuses on adding automation processes to parts of the MOT as well as adding IoT features and a database to the MOT.
Dr. Firdaus’s insights were invaluable to the attendees, who gained a deeper understanding of the transformative power of IoT in healthcare. His presentation also highlighted the importance of collaboration between researchers, healthcare providers, and industry professionals to accelerate the adoption of IoT-based technologies.
The Summer School Elektro UMY, a prestigious event that brings together experts and students from Indonesia and Malaysia, provided a platform for discussing cutting-edge technologies and their applications. Dr. Firdaus’s presentation aligned perfectly with the broader theme of “AI of Things Towards SDG’s,” emphasizing the pivotal role of technology in achieving sustainable development goals.
