Purwokerto, October 4, 2024 – Universitas Jenderal Soedirman’s (Unsoed) Faculty of Engineering, in collaboration with the Electrical Engineering Student Association (HMTE 2024), held a successful third session of their Guest Lecture Series on Friday, October 4, 2024. This insightful session featured Dr. Alfin Hikmaturrokhman, a telecommunications expert from Telkom University Purwokerto, member of IEEE Comsoc, and consultant for Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo).
The lecture, titled “Telecommunication Management and Regulation, Network Planning, and Optimization for 4G/5G/6G Networks”, attracted a wide audience of students, faculty, and telecommunications professionals. The packed session provided an in-depth exploration of the current and future trends in the telecommunications industry, particularly for 4G, 5G, and emerging 6G networks.
Dr. Alfin emphasized the importance of telecommunication management and regulation, particularly in effective frequency spectrum management to optimize limited resources. He discussed the transition from 4G to 5G, highlighting technologies like massive MIMO, beamforming, and network slicing that enhance network efficiency and support more connected devices. Looking ahead to 6G, he predicted even faster speeds and greater capacity for IoT and AI-driven networks. He also reviewed Indonesia’s telecommunication infrastructure, noting the challenges of extending networks to remote 3T regions and the need for resilient infrastructure. Lastly, he highlighted the transformative role of 5G in driving Indonesia’s digital economy, particularly in sectors like healthcare, education, and smart cities.
The lecture concluded with an engaging Q&A session where participants discussed regulatory challenges, commercialization of 5G, and career opportunities in telecommunications. Dr. Alfin’s approachable style and deep expertise made the session both informative and inspiring.
