DLP IEEE ComSoc x Ars Univeristy: Outcome‑Based Education (OBE) Curriculum for Undergraduate Engineering Programs Towards International Accreditation

On Monday, May 5th, 2025, ARS University, in collaboration with the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Indonesia Chapter, hosted a workshop titled:

“Outcome‑Based Education (OBE) Curriculum for Undergraduate Engineering Programs Towards International Accreditation.”

The event took place at the ARS University Auditorium, commencing at 08:30 AM WIB . The workshop was designed to deepen understanding and strengthen the practical implementation of OBE a pedagogical approach globally recognized as a strategic tool for improving the quality of engineering education and aligning programs with international accreditation standards. The opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Dr. Purwadhi, M.Pd, Rector of ARS University, who underlined the importance of synergy between universities and global professional institutions. He stated: “Collaboration like this is vital to build a superior, relevant educational system capable of competing internationally”. Muhammad Nasrun, S.Si., M.T., Vice Chair of IEEE ComSoc Indonesia Chapter, shared insights into IEEE’s role in supporting curriculum development in Indonesia, emphasizing the role of professional communities in ensuring curricula remain adaptive to technological advancements and global industry needs .

The main presentation was delivered by Dr. Rila Mandala, M.Eng., Ph.D., IEEE ComSoc Officer, who provided a comprehensive overview of OBE design strategies, including constructing learning outcome profiles (Capaian Pembelajaran Lulusan, CPL), tailoring curriculum structure, and implementing student performance focused assessment methods all aligned with international accreditation requirements . The workshop was attended by a diverse group including vice rectors, faculty leadership, program heads, lecturers, academic staff, and curriculum development teams from across ARS University. This lively participation reflected a collective enthusiasm to transform higher education toward a more adaptive, innovative, and globally recognized standard. By emphasizing that OBE is now globally recognized as the foundation of quality assurance and accreditation in engineering education, the workshop reaffirmed its strategic alignment with international education trends—particularly within frameworks like the Washington Accord .

In conclusion, the workshop underscored ARS University’s and IEEE ComSoc’s shared commitment to enhancing the quality and competitiveness of Indonesian engineering education. By equipping faculty and curriculum designers with global perspectives and practical tools, this event marked a significant step in accelerating the process toward international program accreditation.
