IEEE ComSoc Indonesia Chapter Webinar Series “Selected Topics in Telecommunication”: Session 3

The IEEE ComSoc Indonesia Chapter successfully conducted the third session of its 2025 Webinar Series “Selected Topics in Telecommunication” on November 29, 2025. This session presented two cutting-edge topics in modern communication technologies: Wi-Fi Sensing and Quality of Service in High-Speed Transportation Networks, delivered by experts from Universitas Gadjah Mada and President University.

The session was opened with a warm welcome to all participants, emphasizing IEEE ComSoc Indonesia Chapter’s ongoing commitment to promoting technological insights and encouraging academic–industry engagement in the field of telecommunications through its webinar series.

The first speaker, Dr. Eng. Ir. Dwi Joko Suroso, S.T., M.Eng., IPP. from Universitas Gadjah Mada, presented the topic “Wi-Fi Sensing: Eksplorasi Teknologi Sensor Berbasis Sinyal Wi-Fi.” His presentation introduced participants to the emerging paradigm of intelligent sensing using existing Wi-Fi signals for advanced applications such as respiratory monitoring, human activity recognition, and device-free indoor localization. He highlighted how Wi-Fi Sensing transforms conventional communication infrastructure into a multifunctional sensing platform capable of capturing subtle environmental changes.

The second speaker, Cutifa Safitri, B.CS., M.IT., Ph.D. from President University, continued the session with the topic “Leveraging Quality of Service in Transportation: Case Study for High-Speed Network.” Her talk explored the challenges of maintaining reliable connectivity in high-speed mobility environments, particularly in modern high-speed rail systems exceeding 300 km/h. She discussed the transition from GSM-R to the more advanced 5G-based FRMCS and introduced the potential role of Information-Centric Networking (ICN) in ensuring low latency, robust data handling, and adaptive communication performance under extreme mobility.

Collectively, both talks highlighted the ongoing shift toward communication systems that not only provide connectivity but also offer intelligent sensing capabilities and high adaptability to dynamic environments—marking an important milestone in the evolution of future telecommunication technologies.

Hosted virtually via Zoom, the session enabled participants from various institutions to explore innovative concepts in wireless communication and next-generation network architecture. The recording of this webinar will be made available online for participants who wish to revisit the discussion.

Stay tuned for more insightful sessions in the IEEE ComSoc Indonesia Chapter Webinar Series 2025!
