The IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Indonesia Chapter, in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed), successfully held Kuliah Umum #3 Telekomunikasi on Thursday, 20 November 2025, at Aula Gedung F, Faculty of Engineering Unsoed. The event brought together students, academics, and technology enthusiasts eager to deepen their understanding of next-generation wireless communication systems.
The session featured a public lecture titled “Koeksistensi Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) dan Jaringan Seluler: Tantangan Spektrum dan Interferensi.” The invited speaker, Dr. Alfin Hikmaturrokhman, S.T., M.T., an Associate Professor at Telkom University and an active officer in IEEE ComSoc Indonesia Chapter, delivered an insightful and comprehensive presentation on the rapid evolution of non-terrestrial connectivity technologies.
In his talk, Dr. Alfin highlighted the persistent global digital divide, noting that more than 3.9 billion people still lack internet access due to the difficulty of deploying terrestrial infrastructure in remote regions such as mountains, forests, and oceanic areas. He introduced Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN)—including LEO/GEO satellites and high-altitude platform systems (HAPS)—as promising “sky-based” solutions designed to complement terrestrial cellular networks rather than replace them. This integrated approach has already been formalized in the 3GPP Release 17 standard.
The lecture drew enthusiastic participation, creating an engaging and interactive atmosphere. The session concluded with a discussion segment in which the speaker addressed various questions from attendees, reflecting the participants’ strong interest in the topic.
The Faculty of Engineering Unsoed extends its appreciation to Dr. Alfin and all participants for contributing to a productive and inspiring academic forum. The event reinforced Unsoed’s commitment to supporting technological innovation and fostering collaboration through IEEE ComSoc Indonesia Chapter.
